Mobile TV Group (MTVG) is celebrating its 25th anniversary with continued dedication to technological innovation, customer service, maintenance, and competitive pricing.
In recent years MTVG has added an increasing number of national, college, and entertainment events, totaling over 4,000 events annually.
With 30+ mobile units (plus “B” units, Audio trailers, etc.), MTVG is able to base its facilities, engineers, and drivers all over the U.S. This allows for the most effective local services to the regional networks and visiting national networks. In addition, MTVG’s event coordinators are assigned to our clients, giving them a consistent and one-stop service. The combination of engineers, event coordinators, and drivers create very cost effective and easy productions.
In 2003 MTVG launched the “dual feed” concept which made it possible to do both home and visitor high definition productions from a single mobile unit. This approach has evolved to a “side-by-side dual feed” where home and visitors work in separate trailers, but from a central set of electronics. As a result, the company can provide both home and visitor the same low rate for each side, but with space and facilities equivalent to two mobile units. Every year, MTVG is adding two more of these “side-by-side duals” in order to provide this efficiency nationwide.
MTVG adheres to a set of strongly enforced principles: First among these is integrity, ethics, and fairness. With respect to its mobile units, we have a no-deferred maintenance policy. If something breaks or fails we repair or replace it by the next event – regardless of cost. We urge you to ask any one of our customers or vendors about our service.
Working at MTVG gives you a career and a community. Our employees are the passionate ones, the ones that are about getting the job done right. Excellent benefits, open culture, and organic structure are just the bonuses. MTVG is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).

MTVG, together with DirecTV, has been nominated for an Emmy for the first live broadcast of a 4K/UHD/HDR event in the United States.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Chairman, Chuck Dages, said “The 39th Sports Emmy Awards encompassed a record-setting number of entries across multiple categories, and the level of quality continues to show the growth and seemingly unlimited potential of what is available for the sports-viewing audience.”
“When you go and sit in a stadium that experience, what your eyes are able to take in, is completely different than even what the best HD and 4K televisions have been in the past,” stated Dale Canino, MTVG Director of Technology, and he went on to say, “now with the high dynamic range you’re able to see things like your eyes see them inside the stadium, you’re able to see both the lightest and darkest portions of the image at the same time, which is a more natural viewing experience.”
“39FLEX is one of the most technological advanced mobile units in today’s marketplace,” according to MTVG President and CEO Philip Garvin, “and with the extensive UHD and HDR projects completed by 39FLEX over the last 18 months our EIC team of Philip Blucas and Carl Osterlund are truly one of the most experienced on UHD/HDR/HD live and live to tape workflows and solutions. This is a very exciting milestone for MTVG and DirecTV and we’re excited about this Emmy nomination and looking forward to potentially adding this prestigious award to our collection.”

After six months of production on our 4K/UHD/HDR mobile unit, 39 Flex, at events as varied as the Masters, PGA Championship, a Garth Brooks concert, Beach Volleyball, MLB games, and Notre Dame football, we have found inconsistencies in the quality of the video. The apparent sharpness or resolution of the 4K images can appear to be no better than 1080i or even 720p. After in-house testing and numerous inquiries with camera and lens manufacturers we have learned that delivering high quality 4K produced with cameras with 2/3” imagers requires some untraditional camera setting procedures – read more here.

Since last March, Mobile TV Group has purchased 18 Grass Valley LDX XtremeSpeed Super Slow Motion cameras. The cameras operate at 6 times speed and can playback at up to 11 times on the Grass Dyno/K2 server. This system is rapidly becoming the standard for SSMO. It offers instant playback, smooth ramping from regular speed to SSMO, and the ability to correct for lighting flicker. MTVG has deployed two of the super-slo-mo cameras on nine mobile units throughout the fleet. The XtremeSpeed cameras will match the rest of the Grass Valley cameras perfectly, giving the production team the ability to cut live to the XtremeSpeed with confidence.
